An Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) is a type of furnace that heats and melts metal using high-power electric arcs. It is mainly used in steelmaking to recycle scrap metal.

Here's how it works in simple terms:

  1. Scrap metal is loaded into the furnace.

  2. Graphite electrodes create an electric arc, producing extreme heat (up to 3,500°C).

  3. The heat melts the metal, and chemical reactions remove impurities.

  4. Once melted, the liquid steel is poured out for further processing.

EAFs are energy-efficient and eco-friendly because they mostly use recycled steel instead of raw materials.
